I have made no money from this and wrote it for entertainment purposes only.
Author's note: I seem to write nothing but SJs so I thought I'd write something
with Janet in it. This could turn into a series just as soon as I finish my big
fic, provided anyone actually wants it to.
Dedication: For Janet_fic, it's not much but I'm making an effort ;)

"Oh but Janet," Cassie complained as Janet tucked her into bed. "It just seems like such a waste of time."
"What does?" Janet paused and looked at the 11 year old.
"Sleeping." She sighed. "I still have so much to learn, so much to do. I'm not even tired."
"You need your sleep." Janet insisted.
"I know." Cassie agreed. "My Mom always said that too."
"She was right," Janet smiled.
"Are you going to be my Mom now?" Cassie's big blue eyes looked up at Janet.
"I'm gonna take care of you," Janet nodded. "But I know how much you miss your mom and I don't expect to replace her.
Cassie nodded slowly.
"Now sleep," Janet insisted.
"I just wish that I didn't have to so that I could learn more."
"What do you want to know?" Janet sympathized with the child and decided to answer a few of her questions.
Cassie thought for a moment, trying to recall all of the questions she had been faced with during the day.
"What's a kangaroo?" She asked finally.
"A kangaroo?" Janet couldn't help but smile. "It's a animal that is common is Australia, it has big back legs so it can jump really high and it has a pouch in it's stomach."
"Like Teal'c?" Cassie inquired.
"Something like that." Janet laughed.
"And why do some people's moms and dads live in different houses?" Cassie continued, remembering a girl who had had to bring clothes for the weekend to school so that she could go straight to her dad's house.
"Sometimes people aren't as much in love as they need to be to live together anymore," Janet explained. "They live apart so that they don't make each other unhappy."
"Like you and your old husband?" Cassie pushed.
"How did you know I was married?" Janet asked suspiciously.
"Sam told me," Cassie admitted.
"Oh did she..."
"What's a lesbian?" Cassie carried on out of the blue.
"Where did you hear that?" Janet inquired.
"Some girls in the playground were asking everyone if they were lesbians and then laughing." Cassie told her without hesitation.
"It means when a woman loves another woman," She explained.
"Do you love Sam?" Cassie continued.
"She's a good friend," Janet told the child. "But what I meant was when two women love each other as much as people who get married love each other."
Janet could feel herself digging a hole that she wasn't sure she'd ever get out of. To her surprise the girl moved on without question.
"What does BJ stand for?"
Janet's eyes almost fell out of her head.
"The answer is always no," she insisted.
"To what?"
"If anyone ever asks about that you say no."
"Ok," Cassie shrugged, deciding against pushing it.
"I think it's bed time now," Janet tucked the covers back around Cassie.
"Are Jack and Sam getting married?" She asked sleepily.
"What makes you ask that?" Janet could hardly stop herself from laughing.
"When Jack took me shopping for my watch last weekend he was looking at the pretty rings and muttering 'engaged to carter'." Cassie replied innocently.
"They're not getting married," Janet brushed a hand over Cassie's hair. "It was just something someone said at work."
"Ok," Cassie yawned.
"Goodnight sweetie." Janet kissed Cassie's head.
"Goodnight," Cassie replied giving Janet a hug.
Janet had just reached the door when she heard an added whisper.
"Thank you mom."
Janet smiled softly, she knew that it wasn't for her ears yet but she couldn't help but feel a little hope for the future, the future for her and her daughter.
The End
